Ok, here we go…. Inktober is here, and the first prompt is MUSTACHE. So, what better mustache than those from the Wild West? Old school style. I wanted to capture the weight of time in this portrait: an old man with a weathered face, heavy mustache, and a cowboy hat. Inspired by the character played by Sam Elliott in the 1989 film Road House. I pushed the ink shading and cross-hatching to achieve a truly rugged, timeworn feel. Feels like he’s about to tell you a wild story about the good old days, you hear me, son. Enjoy!
I wrote a tutorial article over at Multimedia Artist magazine about all the steps I took to create this image and how the video was produced. Go read here.
Of course, nowadays, with the revolution of AI and the new Art Renaissance, I had to make a quick PGV for vPlus. Go view it now!
